About the program

Wesley Mission’s Community and Family Care teams build resilience and strengthen capacity in the local communities where we work. We support people using evidence-based, trauma-informed, person-centred approach in a holistic manner and on a voluntary basis. The Youth & Family Caseworker & Groupworker role will offer support to at-risk and vulnerable young people and their families and communities. The role is also responsible for facilitating various groups workshops and events, consequently improving overall community engagement and social participation for young people.

About the role

We are looking for an outstanding Youth & Family Caseworker & Group Worker who is conscientious, reliable, and motivated about making a difference. As a Youth & Family Caseworker & Groupworker within the Targeted Earlier Intervention program, you will providing community-based services with the goal of preventing children and young people from entering the child protection system. 

All staff at Child, Youth & Family work hard to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships in an autonomous-supportive work environment where they are all trained to be the best in their field. Wesley Mission provides regular supervision, support, and training for all staff.

Essential criteria

  • relevant tertiary qualification & minimum 2 years’ experience working in the community welfare system
  • strengths-based case management experience with the ability to engage families at the point of initial contact and build collaborative working relationships
  • experience developing case summaries and child protection reports and entering this information into electronic client management systems
  • ability to work one-on-one, and in groups, with clients in a holistic and flexible manner
  • experience with providing flexible service to children, young people and their families via home visiting, schools visits and centre-based care
  • proven ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and a strong knowledge of the impacts of colonisation and the subsequent barriers this creates for First Nations Peoples;
  • experience working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds and an understanding of the strengths that lie within this community, whilst also acknowledging the systemic barriers these communities face
  • current NSW or National driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Check & criminal record history check and ability to work in schools

Desirable criteria

  • broad understanding of the local child and family support sector
  • child protection knowledge and experience.
