The parents participating in Wesley ParentsNext have been achieving some amazing things…
Good news and great joy for Paula at Christmas
t will be a different Christmas in Paula Hawkshaw’s household this year. A phone call from an employer offering her a new job has proved pivotal in giving her hope and delight to her family.
After a lengthy–and often difficult–journey as a single mum of two, including a child with additional needs, Paula was offered the job of her dreams in aged care.
Paula’s path to employment began with a visit to Wesley Mission’s ParentsNext in Wyong, a program designed to help parents successfully enter or re-enter the workforce by the time their children start school
Helping Renay rediscover her passion
After leaving school in Year 10, she found her first jobs in the food industry and in retail, but soon suffered a back and head injury cutting her career short and impacting her confidence.
Renay had no job, few prospects and had not worked at all for more than five years. As a sole parent, she was struggling to care for and support her small but close knit family.
Through ParentsNext, Renay was able to identify a personal goal: to conduct laboratory work, particularly pathology.
Supporting a single mum in following her dreams
With encouragement and support from Wesley Mission’s ParentsNext program, a single mum from Sydney’ South West has opened her own hairdressing salon and discovered a new sense of independence.
When Mia* was unemployed and had her hands full looking after her four year old daughter, she was referred to the program by Centrelink. Without a network of support from other mothers, Mia found it difficult to identify and access activities that would help her “quite shy” daughter make new friends and learn new skills
