Help for foster kids, families and carers

with Wesley Dalmar

Birth families

Keeping children who are in care connected with their birth families is an essential part of out-of-home care. Research shows that children who maintain regular contact with their families do better both in foster care and after leaving care than those who lose that connection.

Wesley Keeping Connected, a program run at Wesley Dalmar, provides a structured approach by arranging regular, supervised and safe transport options as well as contacts that promote positive interactions with their family.

Staff are carefully matched to the family’s needs and are focused on the success of the visit.

The service offers:

  • contact times and activities suitable for children and families
  • secure, family friendly environments
  • safe, reliable transport
  • comprehensive reporting as required.

We believe that contact visits should be based on building and maintaining family relationships and that, through sensitive planning and supervision, we can help parents and children enjoy a great experience.

Those who have left care

As the young people in our care transition out of their foster homes as they get older, it’s important that they remain supported for the long term, and we offer a number of services to this end.

If you have left foster care with Wesley Dalmar, there are several support services available to help you.

If you would like to access your records, tell us about your time in foster care, or receive support from a psychologist or psychiatrist, get in touch with Wesley Aftercare. We’re stationed all over New South Wales, and are ready to help you any way we can.

We also offer Scholarships for a university degree or trade certificate. Find out more about how you can apply.

Taking charge of your life

If you’re aged 15 to 25 and transitioning from living in out-of-home care to living independently, you can be supported through our Wesley Take Charge of Your Life program. We connect young people with other Wesley Mission services such as accommodation support, so your transition is made as smooth as possible and you can best foot forward for your next stage of life.

Wesley Mission Independent Living program provides accommodation and counselling for young people leaving foster care or a group home and are at risk of becoming homeless. If you’re in this situation, it’s best to act as quickly as possible. Get in touch with us here.
