It demonstrates that you’ve acquired specific skills and knowledge required to work in various community service roles, including communication, professional ethics, support work and empowerment strategies.
How to get a community service certificate?

To obtain a community service certificate, enrol in a relevant course offered by an accredited training provider such as Wesley Mission. Simply fill out an online application form, providing your educational qualifications.


Once accepted, you will engage in coursework, practical assignments and work placements to meet the learning objectives for your chosen program.

Which community services certificates does Wesley Mission offer?

Wesley Mission offers a variety of community service certificate programs that meet your interests and career pathway. These include:

Is a community services certificate nationally recognised?
Yes, community services certificates offered by accredited institutions like Wesley Mission are nationally recognised throughout Australia. This boosts your employment prospects in community services across various sectors and locations.
How long does it take to complete a community services certificate?

Our certificate programs, which are available in online, in-person, and mixed-mode formats, require one day per fortnight of active participation and a further 20 – 25 hours for every competency unit you enrol in. The certificate programs run for a duration of between 10 and 15 months.


Our mixed-mode CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services program runs for 24 months and requires a minimum of 100 hours of work experience or placement.

Does a community service certificate require work placement?
Yes, most of our certificate programs require some form of practical work placement, though some allow for a skills demonstration within a simulated work environment. The hands-on experience gives you the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.
What are the entry requirements for a community services certificate?

Our entry requirements specify that you must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian Permanent Resident or a Humanitarian visa holder

  • Have NSW residency or be employed by a NSW employer

  • Possess a satisfactory level of language, literacy, numeracy and digital capability.

  • Have access to a computer with Microsoft 365 or similar applications and a dependable internet and browser

  • Commit to the attendance, study load and work experience/work placement requirements for each course

  • Be willing to complete: 

 – A volunteer Working with Children Check 
 – Australian National Police Check **
 – New Worker NDIS Induction Module
 – NDIS Workers Screening Check  

 

You may also be asked to demonstrate your communication and interpersonal skills, which are vital skills in the community services sector.

You certainly can. At Wesley Mission, we offer flexible study options that include online and part-time courses, so it’s easier for you to balance your education with other work and personal life commitments.
