Every child deserves safety

Children deserve safe, consistent supervision wherever their day begins and ends.
Wesley Mission runs out of school hours care at 15 locations across NSW.

At every one of our sites, we already ensure a minimum of two educators are present at all times – because safer supervision should never be optional.

That’s why we’re proud to support The Y NSW’s Prioritising Child Safety campaign and invite families, educators and community members to add their voice by signing the pledge.

One educator. Fifteen children. Busy school grounds.

Outside school hours care is a fast moving, complex environment. Educators are managing arrivals and departures, indoor and outdoor transitions, children’s behaviour and wellbeing, first aid, and the unexpected moments that demand immediate action.

Under current regulations, it is legally possible for one educator to be responsible for up to 15 children. This isn’t good enough.

When only one adult is present, the margin for safe supervision narrows.

What we’re calling for

We’re calling on the NSW Government to strengthen the regulatory framework by making a two-educator minimum the standard practice across all OOSH services.
