Wesley Catering supports clients in our care by providing a suitable and wholesome meal offering. Through our work with Wesley Retirement Living, Wesley Catering provides food offerings in a relaxed and caring environment.

 

About the role

As Café Manager, you will run a small kitchen, supported by a kitchenhand, to provide café style options for village residents and other customers. The Café Manager is responsible for all café operations including, food preparation, ordering of pre-made foods, cooking of meal offerings, serving, barista duties and maintaining a clean kitchen. You will be responsible for the supervision and on-site leadership of a kitchenhand, and café assistant when needed.

 

You will provide a range of cooked options, with some items changing weekly to cater for the residents of the village. You will be responsible for ordering supplies required on a daily and weekly basis. Administrative support will be provided for payment of suppliers and reporting to management.

 

This position covers Monday to Friday service between 9am and 2pm and Sunday lunch. From time to time there may be catering demands such as morning teas, events and meeting lunch plates.

 

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience running a small kitchen or café and multi-tasking
  • Basic cooking / frying of foods
  • Have the ability to plan ahead
  • Experience preparing vegetarian and gluten free meals
  • Communicate daily with village residents
  • Have demonstrated experience maintaining a clean kitchen
  • Understand safe work practices and food safety/hygiene
  • Work to set timeframes to complete jobs in a timely and efficient manner
  • Support a worker with an intellectual disability to achieve their hospitality goals

 

 

Essential criteria

  • Experience with Food preparation and cooking
  • Good communication skills
  • Good planning for ordering and menu setting
  • Neat and tidy appearance
  • Ability to supervise kitchen staff
  • Reliability in attendance and work performance
  • There is a requirement to work weekday public holidays, unless prior arrangements have been made
  • Work within the Vision and Values of Wesley Mission

 

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working in an aged care setting
  • Experience working with people with a disability
  • Qualifications or training in food preparation and cooking

 

Conditions of employment are in line with the Restaurant Industry Award 2010 for a chef Grade 5. Wesley Mission offers salary packaging to increase take home pay.
