Child Protection Officer

You will be responsible for triaging risk of harm reports and conducting reportable conduct investigations across Wesley Dalmar Out-of-Home Care and Wesley Mission programs.

  • Full time position (38 hours) or part time position (30 hours)

  • Based at Gosford with coverage across the Sydney Metropolitan, Central Coast, Hunter and Northern NSW areas

  • Remunerated under SCHADS award level 6, with salary packaging and fully maintained vehicle

 

We are recruiting for a Child Protection Officer located at Gosford (location may be flexible at manager discretion). This position will be responsible for triaging risk of harm reports and conducting reportable conduct investigations across Wesley Dalmar Out-of-Home Care and Wesley Mission programs. Key responsibilities will include;

  • Investigating and managing complex and sensitive reportable conduct investigations on child abuse.
  • Interviewing of all parties, collecting evidence, analysing evidence, risk assessment and preparation of reports on findings
  • Providing specialist advice and training across the organisation
  • Ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory safeguarding obligations
  • Coordinating with external agencies such as OCG, DCJ and NSW Police
  • Supporting OOHC programs with safeguarding and child protection concerns

 

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, Psychology or related discipline

  • Ability to conduct thorough investigations including planning, conducting interviews with children and adults, debriefing and preparing reports

  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and maintain impartiality across multiple projects

  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence

  • Willingness to travel within the state

  • Flexible working hours

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in Out-of-Home care, Child Protection or Investigations

  • Risk assessment skills in relation to child protection and reportable conduct

  • The impact of trauma, attachment dysfunction and grief and loss on children and young people.

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office

  • Conditions of employment are in line with the SHADS Award Level 6.
