About the program

Funded by the Office of Responsible Gambling and operating within the NSW integrated GambleAware service model. GambleAware helpline provides brief, solution focused, phone-based support to individuals and family members who are experiencing gambling related harm. This service also facilitates access to ongoing support options, including referrals to local GambleAware providers.

Helpline is operational 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365-day service.

 

What you’ll do

We are looking for a number of qualified counsellors, who are conscientious, reliable and motivated about making a difference.

As a telephone counsellor you will be working within a team of highly skilled professionals to provide brief, solution focused intervention to callers who have been impacted by gambling.

 

Shift requirements

Positions include a rotating roster across morning, afternoon and overnight shifts.

  • Permanent part-time roles: expected to include 3–4 awake overnight shifts from home each month.

  • Casual roles: expected to accept at least one overnight shift per month and fill vacant shifts where available. 

 

Essential criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Counselling or Psychology
  • Minimum of 12 months counselling experience
  • Willingness to work a rotating roster for a 24 hour, 365 day helpline. Specifically recruiting for staff to be able to work a variety of shifts between the hours of 2pm-6am.
  • Membership of professional association (i.e APS, PACFA, ACA)
  • Demonstrated skills and experience using brief, solution focused therapies
  • Experience using electronic client management systems and databases
  • Cultural competence and experience working alongside Culturally diverse and First Nations families

 

Desirable criteria

  • Minimum of 12 months counselling experience
  • Experience and training in addiction and/ or gambling counselling
  • Experience in telephone counselling

 

Remuneration

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award, Level 5. Includes shift loading and super.
