About the role

As Kitchen Hand, you will work with a Chef to provide meal options for village residents and other customers. The Kitchen Hand is responsible for food preparation, assisting the Chef with cooking of meal offerings, serving, and maintaining a clean kitchen. This position covers Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday service between 10.00am and 3pm, Tuesday 10.00am – 2.30pm and Sunday 10am to 3.00pm. From time to time there may be catering demands such as morning teas, events, and meeting lunch plates. 

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

  • Experience with food preparation and cooking

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness

  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks independently.

  • Understand safe work practices and food safety/hygiene.

  • Work to set time frames to complete jobs in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. 

 

 Essential criteria

  • There is a requirement to work weekday public holidays unless prior arrangements have been made.

  • Work within the Vision and Values of Wesley Mission 

 

 Desirable criteria 

  • Experience working in an aged care setting.

  • Qualifications or training in food preparation and cooking

  • First aid certificate
