Become an Auntie or Uncle and make a meaningful difference in a child’s life with just one day a month.
Help a child reach their full potential

Help a child achieve their potential
Sadly, not all children have positive adult role models and consistent support. By volunteering as an Auntie or Uncle with Wesley Mission, you can help a child up to 12 years old learn about positive social and life skills and create happy childhood memories.
Our Aunties & Uncles volunteer one day or weekend a month to spend with their matched child, doing enjoyable activities together or just participating in family life. It’s fun and enriching and you’ll be making a real difference in a child’s life.
What are the benefits to you?
Being an Auntie or Uncle with Wesley Mission is a chance to be part of one of Australia’s long-term mentoring program for children and young people.

Who can volunteer?

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, ages and genders. Some are single, some are couples, some have children, others don’t. Having a diverse range of volunteers means we can make matches we wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Many of our children live in challenging family circumstances. These can include - but are not limited to:
- Families that are socially and emotionally isolated
- Families with a lack of extended family support
- Single parent families
- Grandparent carers
- A family history of drug and/or alcohol abuse
- A family history that includes domestic violence
- Mental illness in the family
- A parent or sibling with a disability
- A family that has lost a family member
- A parent who has been in Out of Home Care.
Because of this, it’s essential that once approved and matched with a child, you commit to a minimum of 12 months with the aim of building long-term connections. As well as having a warm and caring heart, you’ll need to:
- Be over 21 years old
- Be available for training
- Complete a criminal record history check and a working with children check
- Be able to engage in child-friendly activities
- Have a current driver’s licence
- Have Australian citizenship, permanent residency or select visa types – call us to learn more about which visas are accepted.

Krisztina loves being an ‘aunty’ in the Wesley Auntys & Uncles program. “I love children and not having children of my own, I thought it would be a nice way for me to get to know a little child,” she says. “And hopefully be a positive influence.”KrisztinaCommunity Relations Officer at Wesley Mission

I had a marriage breakdown and following assistance by counsellors, I wanted to put back something into the community. There are a lot of people out there who have needs and in some way I'm able to help them, maybe by no more than just relieving the pressure of the moment through talking.KenLifeline Sydney & Sutherland volunteer Crisis Supporter
