If you want to stay living at home for as long as you can, we can help with tailored home modification options that improve safety, mobility, daily living and quality of life. Home assessments by occupational therapists can recommend the right changes to your home, and we will work with you and your medical adviser through the process to make sure everything is tailored to your specific needs.

Whether you are exploring, home modifications via NDIS, My Aged Care, privately or Workers Compensation, our service covers minor home modifications as well as more custom, complex work.

Modify your home to suit your changing needs

Small changes can make a big difference to how you live. Our home modification services are designed to help you modify your house to your needs and create a more accessible home, so we can assist you to stay independent for longer in your own home.

Examples of home modifications may include:

installing grab rails, hand rails and handheld showers as part of internal changes that do not affect the structure
modifying access to include ramps, step ramps, platform steps and paths, and home modifications can include ramps and grab rails to make entry more accessible modifications can include ramps and grab rails to make entry more accessible
stair lift installation for safe access between different levels in a house
complex bathroom modifications including minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry work, if it meets eligibility criteria

Our home modification services are available in the Inner West, Western Sydney and the Nepean region for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or across the Sydney Metro for Home Care Packages (HCP), National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funded and fee-for-service works.

Get help keeping your home maintained

A well maintained home is a safer home, and maintenance helps older people live safely at home while improving safety as needs change. Examples of home maintenance services may include:

checking windows and door locks and adjusting them if necessary, including replacing traditional doorknobs with lever handles, as lever-style door handles are easier to use for individuals with limited grip strength
removing trip hazards in access ways for your personal safety, such as adding non-slip flooring
home and yard maintenance and repairs that remove identified risks to your safety, including automated lighting to improve visibility and safety
minor electrical and plumbing repairs where safety is an issue
height related repairs for your health and safety i.e. gutters, roofs and external windows.

Our maintenance services are also available in the Inner West and Western Sydney regions, and across Sydney Metro for HCP, NDIS funded or fee-for-service works.

How to access our services

You can access our home modification and maintenance services in several ways, through different funding programs.

We can provide our home modifications and maintenance services in the Inner West and Western Sydney through CHSP funding. Services provided through CHSP are income tested and often generously subsidised. To be eligible for CHSP, you will need to be:

65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples) and have a valid My Aged Care referral code
50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Peoples), on a low income and homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

If your occupational therapist identifies a need for home modifications and maintenance, we have services available in Western Sydney and the Inner West. Our team may be able to organise an occupational therapist assessment, if needed. If you are not referred through a government funded program, you will need to pay for our services.

Your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator may be able to help you access NDIS funding, along with a referral to access home modifications and maintenance through our services. You will need to have a service agreement and an NDIS service booking in place before we can provide services.
