Commencing July 2026, Wesley Mission is growing its GambleAware services, extending our reach across Blue Mountains & Western Sydney, Central Sydney, South West Sydney, and North Sydney & Central Coast. This expansion reflects our long‑standing commitment to harm reduction and ensures more individuals, families and communities can access timely, high‑quality support for gambling‑related harm.
About the program
GambleAware program delivers a stepped, multimodal and person‑centred approach to supporting individuals, families and communities affected by gambling harm. Our work spans early intervention, therapeutic counselling, community engagement and education—focused not only on responding to harm, but also on reducing stigma, strengthening community capacity and increasing help‑seeking.
We work collaboratively with local services, community partners and stakeholders to create accessible pathways to care and ensure support is responsive, culturally informed and grounded in best‑practice harm‑reduction principles.
About the role
A primary component of this role involves building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, both within the organisation and externally. The successful candidate will be expected to actively network, develop and deliver training sessions, and pursue collaborative opportunities that benefit clients and the broader community. This includes identifying suitable services and resources for those in need. As a community engagement linker working alongside other service providers and the broader community is essential to help reduce the stigma associated with gambling harm.
The fundamental tasks of our community engagement Linker include:
Community Engagement and Outreach
- The community engagement linker is responsible for providing assertive outreach and psychoeducation within local communities.
Awareness and Capacity Building
- Promote awareness of the risks associated with gambling.
- Increase the community’s capacity to recognise warning signs of problematic gambling and enhance understanding of available support.
Pathways and Support
- Create accessible pathways and links for individuals seeking further support through GambleAware.
- Support and facilitate a range of activities, including group sessions, individual support, and check-ins, while building positive relationships and connections in accordance with the program scope.
Essential Criteria
- Relevant Tertiary Qualifications related to relevant industry experience and discipline. Diploma level qualifications can be considered where applicants have more than three years’ industry community engagement experience
- Experience and/or competency in developing and delivering community education and targeted group programs
- Experience in delivering community awareness campaigns and events
- Understanding of strength-based practices
- Understands the importance of family/community ecosystems
- High level ability to liaise, develop and maintain relationships with professional groups including government and non-government stakeholders
- Proven ability to work with at risk and vulnerable communities
- Ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) organisations and communities
- Proven organizational skills, ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines and achieve KPI’s
- Flexibility to work some evenings and occasional Saturdays
- Current NSW driver’s license, current Working with Children Check and police check
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in Gambling Harm and addictions
- Demonstrated knowledge of the impact of trauma and addictive behaviors
- An interest in and/or knowledge of issues relating to gambling harm or at-risk behaviors
- Training and assessment certificate
