What we do
Our program aims to maintain and strengthen bonds between children and their families. It facilitates supervised visits, often involving transportation and safe, family-friendly environments, to help children stay connected with their birth families.
Keeping Connected takes two different types of referrals:
- Contact Service Schedule: Supporting family time for children in out of home care to remain connected to their famlies.
- Family Contact services: Support family connection for children to remain engaged with their non residential family members. This could be supporting court orders, or direct family arrangements.
There are two types of referrals:
Family Contact services
For families requiring supervised or supported visits — including court-ordered contact, separation, custody or other arrangements.
DCJ contact schedule
For children in out-of-home care connecting with birth families. Referrals via Department of Communities and Justice caseworkers.

FAQs
FAQs
What is a supervised family visit?
A supervised family visit is a safe, structured opportunity for parents and children to spend time together in the presence of a trained Wesley Mission staff member. The supervisor is there to support the visit – not to judge – and to make sure the experience is positive for everyone, especially the children.
Can I use this service without a court order?
Yes. While many families come to us through the Family Court, you don't need a court order to access supervised visits. Families can arrange visits privately, including through agreement with a caseworker, solicitor, or the other parent.
How much does it cost?
Fees vary depending on the type and length of visit. We'll always be upfront about costs before any visit is booked.
Where do visits take place?
Visits take place at our Wesley Mission centres, which are designed to be welcoming and comfortable for children. Depending on the circumstances, some visits may also be supported in community settings. We'll work with you to find the right environment.
How long does a visit last?
Visit lengths vary and are agreed upon in advance. A typical visit runs between one and two hours, though shorter or longer sessions can be arranged depending on the needs of your family and any court requirements.
Are reports provided for court use?
Yes. Our supervisors keep written records of each visit. If a report is required for court proceedings, we can provide a factual account of what took place. Reports are objective and focus on what was observed during the visit.
What happens if a visit doesn't go well?
The safety and wellbeing of the children is always our first priority. If a visit needs to be paused or ended early, our supervisor will handle this calmly and respectfully. We'll always follow up with the relevant parties afterwards and work through next steps together.
