Home care packages in Sydney

Our Support at Home program (previously called Home Care Packages (HCPs)) offers older Sydney-siders a government-funded pathway to access vital at-home care and support. Home care costs are subsidised under the Support at Home program launched in November 2025, are tailored to your specific situation, making sure you obtain a personalised level of support.

What types of Support at Home services are available?

There are four main types of Support at Home services:

1 Clinical support services include nursing care, restorative care and health therapies.

2 Independence services provide personal care, carer respite and assistance with activities for social connection.

3 Everyday living services centre around general help around your home and garden, and include the preparation of meals.

4 Short-term support services include providing home modifications and the provision of equipment to help you remain in your home. Restorative care is also included, as is end-of-life support. 

Who pays for home care packages?
The government pays for most of the in-home care services in Australia. You may be asked to contribute towards your care costs, but only if you can afford it. We’ll discuss any fees with you and make sure you agree on the cost before we provide services. You can be confident there’ll be no surprises.
Can I get an interpreter?

If you speak a language other than English, you can call the Translating and Interpreting Services (TIS) on 131 450. They’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and cover more than 100 languages.

 

Or, you can call the National Contact Centre on 1800 200 422 between 8am and 8pm on weekdays or between 10am and 2pm on Saturdays. They will organise an interpreter through TIS to support our contact centre.

 

My Aged Care has information on at-home aged care services in a number of languages.

What if I have a hearing or speech impairment?
You can contact My Aged Care through the National Relay Service. Just visit the National Relay Service website to choose your access point and ask for My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.

Speak to our home care services team and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Call us on 1300 086 906 during business hours.
When to consider home care for seniors?
Home care assistance is an excellent solution for seniors when daily tasks become difficult to fulfil or safety concerns arise. Using this home care support allows you to maintain your independence, comfort and a familiar environment in your own home.
Who is eligible for Support at Home in Australia?
Eligibility for support services at home applies to older Australians in need of daily assistance. This eligibility is determined through an assessment by My Aged Care. At Wesley Mission, we can provide you with valuable guidance throughout this process.
What is a Home Care Package (HCP)?

The Home Care Package (HCP) program, now replaced by the Support at Home program, is a government-subsidised initiative that offers coordinated support services for elderly Australians whose care needs are complex. It's primary aim is to support older individuals to remain living in their homes safely and independently.

What is the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)?
CHSP is a government-funded initiative that provides subsidised support for older Australians seeking basic in-home care. This program helps you with daily tasks at home to support your independence. If you have more complex needs, the Support at Home program may be more suitable.  

The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) will transition to Support at Home, but not before 1 July 2027.
