Jo sharing the relaxation yoga brings with seniors
Each week at Wesley School for Seniors you can see a circle of students sitting on chairs as Jo Lau gently guides them through a series of yoga poses. Everyone lets their stresses go as they twist backs, legs and arms depending on each pose.
As part of our Lifehacks from the Learned series, Jo shares five tips on yoga for seniors below.
Jo fell in love with yoga 10 years ago when she did her first class. Over the years she said it has provided an important de-stress after busy days in her job as a digital media specialist.
“I used to suffer from migraines, lower back pain and other health issues,” she said. “But yoga has alleviated all that.”
Jo is a member of Wesley International Congregation, Ryde, and said she includes a gospel reflection as part of each session.
“It provides a great opportunity to spend time in prayer,” she reflects.
The young mum is enthusiastic about teaching at Wesley School for Seniors and finds it very rewarding.
“I’d much rather spend time here than any paid job,” she said.
