Unlock your NDIS plan: a simple guide to your funding in Sydney and the far north coast of NSW

Think of your National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan as your map. It's a tool designed to help you live the life you want. A life with more independence and connection.

But let's be real. The different types of funding can feel a bit confusing. We get it.

At Wesley Mission, we offer disability services in Sydney and greater NSW. We will help you understand your NDIS plan. Your funding is split into three main areas. Knowing these areas is key to getting the most from your plan and accessing the right disability services support.

Core supports for your daily life

This is your flexible funding for everyday stuff. It helps you with daily tasks. It helps you get out and about in your community. You can use it where you need it most.

It covers four key areas:

  • Help at home: Support with things like cooking, cleaning, and personal care.
  • Everyday items: Helps pay for things you use often, like continence aids or wound care supplies.
  • Getting around: Pays for travel to work, appointments, or social events if public transport is tough because of your disability.
  • Joining your community: Gives you support to connect with groups, go to events, or try a new hobby.

This funding is designed to be flexible. It helps you manage your day-to-day life with the right support.

Capital supports for bigger changes

This funding is for bigger, one-off things. Things that really boost your independence long-term. These are items that make your life safer and easier to access.

They include:

  • Tools that help you: This could be a wheelchair, hearing aids, or a device to help you communicate.
  • Making your home work for you: Funds for changes like handrails, ramps, or a stairlift. These make your home safer and more accessible.
  • Adapting your car: Covers changes like a wheelchair lift or special hand controls so you can travel safely.

These are usually bigger projects. They often need a specific quote to get approved through your NDIS plan.

Capacity building to grow your skills

This part of your plan is all about you. It's an investment in your future, building confidence and skills.

This funding helps you work towards your personal goals. You could use it to:

  • Get help to understand and use your NDIS plan better.
  • Learn new daily living skills, like cooking or using transport.
  • Find and keep a job that's a good fit.
  • Build stronger friendships and connections.
  • Access therapies or fitness programs to improve your health.

Every dollar here is connected to a goal in your plan. It helps you take clear steps forward in life.

What your NDIS plan covers

The NDIS is set up to fund the specific support you need because of your disability

It pays for services and tools that are resonable and necessary to help you live a better life. It won't cover everyday costs everyone has, like groceries or rent. It also doesn't cover things that other government services, like hospitals or schools, are meant to handle.

Your plan, your life

Your NDIS plan is built around you and your goals. To make it work best, it's important to know how your funding fits those goals.

The NDIS is more than just money. It's a path to a more independent and fulfilling life. It starts with you, and you don't have to walk it alone.
