Celebrating our Volunteers ‘Under the Sea’

28 November 2019 Wesley Mission news

VF 1On Sunday 17 November, Wesley Mission celebrated the incredible work of over 170 volunteers at our ‘Under the Sea’ themed Volunteer Appreciation Function and Awards.

In 2019, 6,537 volunteers and corporate partners contributed their time and talents to provide support to people most in need. And at this year’s event, we highlighted the contribution of our Lifeline Volunteers and all those who have achieved special milestones in their service.

Our MC for the event, Christine Ireland, is Volunteer Officer at Wesley Mission and passionate about volunteering. Christine opened the night with ‘welcome to country’ and spoke of her gratitude for all volunteers.

“It was my absolute honour to MC this year’s Volunteer Appreciation Function and Awards. I have been organising this event for the past 5 years and it’s something I look forward to each year.

Our volunteers do so much and without them we just couldn’t help so many people and families in need. This past year our volunteers saved Wesley Mission over $5 million. What an amazing effort! We are so incredibly thankful”, says Christine.

VF 2Rev Dr Rick Dacey thanked God for our volunteers and blessed the event before our volunteers enjoyed a delicious meal, served by Wesley Mission’s senior staff leaders.

As part of the ‘Under the Sea’ theme, guests were transported to the Caribbean by the sounds of the band, The Calypso Boys.

The celebration continued as Rev Dr Keith Garner AM shared a beautiful message about the power of serving, reiterating his utmost respect for people who sacrifice their time for the greater good. He then presented the ‘Making a Difference’ volunteer of the year awards, followed by dessert and coffee.
