Re-live our Easter Sunday sunrise service
A huge thank you to everyone who celebrated Jesus’ resurrection with us at our Easter Sunday sunrise service—it was a truly special and joyous event!
Wesley Mission’s CEO, the Rev Keith Garner led the service, sharing inspiring thoughts surrounding our Easter theme of ‘compassion’. He highlighted how Jesus’ compassion inspires everything we do at Wesley Mission.
“We’re motivated by the Word and deed that God shows us, and seek to share that love with all the people we come into contact with,” said Mr Garner.
This powerful message of hope that Easter brings shone through in an interview with John Cotterill, a volunteer for Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland. John said of Lifeline, a crisis telephone support service, that “there is no typical caller … just people who need an ear to listen”. John’s dedication to giving back to those most in need and his desire to show unconditional love to others, as Christ did for us, was deeply moving.
Mr Garner’s conversation with Vanessa Daniels, a prominent figure in our work supporting those who are homeless, was particularly poignant. Their words emphasised how Wesley Homeless Services seek to meet the needs of every individual, and how this is intricately bound with faith and compassion. They also shared how rewarding it is to be able to assist people in finding a home.
“Compassion, empathy, are the most important things that we have to offer someone who might be suffering,” said Vanessa.
A highlight for many was the heartfelt performances of Australia Gospel artist, Steve Grace, who took time out of his current tour to join the service. The musical evangelist sang ‘Down at the Cross’ and ‘Glory Bound Train’ to the joy of the congregation.
