Wesley Dalmar recruits Education Mentors
Wesley Dalmar is seeking Education Mentors in a new initiative designed to give children and young people in foster care extra support with their schooling.
Through the initiative, children would receive an hour of one-on-one tutoring support from a trained teacher or fourth-year teaching student, with a focus on developing literacy and numeracy skills.
The mentors will also be experienced in developing reports and assessments and developing educational intervention plans, and have experience or willingness in teaching students with learning difficulties or special needs.
The upheaval many children and young people in foster care have experienced through trauma, attachment dysfunction, grief and loss can significantly impact their educational ability and experience.
The support Education Mentors provide could make all the difference to the experience and performance of these children in their school years.
The education support will be provided to children living in out of home care in the Blacktown, Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Hills, Mt Druitt, Penrith and Rooty Hill areas.
Mentors will be matched with children and young people throughout the school year on a needs basis.
The suitable applicants will be subject to the relevant pre-employment checks for appointment to positions within Wesley Mission and will need to provide a valid Working with Children Check clearance number.
Wesley Mission is a Christian organisation that requires all staff to affirm its values. Indigenous people are encouraged to apply.
