Wesley Mission’s legacy history and the Waddell family

Remarkable legacies have transformed the lives of people in need. The Waddell’s great gift of a home helped Wesley Hospital provide quality, compassionate psychiatric care in a nurturing environment.

During their lives 77 per cent of people in New South Wales will experience, or know someone who has experienced, a mental health issue. This alarming statistic makes it all the more urgent to recognise and treat this silent problem early and to seek fresh approaches to its management. Given the pervasiveness of mental health issues, it is not just something for the professionals to deal with. Everybody has a role to play in dispelling the misinformed fears surrounding mental health and in supporting those people—friends, family, workmates, classmates—who are suffering.
