Best of 2014: The call of elite athletes
This week on Wesley Impact! TV we meet former Olympian Elka Whalan and the Rev Dr Keith Garner explores Matthew.
Today we meet former Australian Olympian swimmer, Elka Whalan. Such a small percentage of people in each country make it to the Olympic games and even fewer win medals. Elka Whalan talks to Keith about what it takes to become an elite athlete and how it is just as much about a person's mind as their body and talent. She shares her perspective on her own God given talent and also about what makes a great all round sports person. Elka is a committed Christian, sports commentator and passionate communicator and she now dedicates her time to helping people discover their purpose in life.
Wesley Mission story—Wesley Family Centre
Today we visit Wesley Family Centre, Westlakes, to see how support services such as playgroups, parenting programs, mums and bubs groups, and one on one home visiting are helping families in the community. We meet Erin and hear how this Wesley Family Centre has helped her and her young daughter face challenges and develop confidence and happiness as a family.
The Rev Dr Keith Garner continues exploring the book of Matthew in the New Testament. We follow the evocative story of Jesus Christ sending the crowds away in chapter 14. We look at how this conveys the humanity of Jesus Christ, who was often driven by compassion to serve the needs of others, but also needed to take time out in solitude.
We are joined by Liv Chapman on the Wesley Impact! TV stage. Liv is a talented young woman with a captivating voice who calls Sydney home. We also hear from talented artist Greg Attwells. Greg is a seasoned performer of indie, folk and worship and has a deep desire to lead others to the feet of Jesus Christ with his music.
