Food and friendships
This week on Wesley Impact! TV we meet pastor and author, Simon Carey Holt, and the Rev Dr Keith Garner explores Matthew 14.
Eating and drinking is something that, for Christians, can be a confusing subject to navigate. Emphasis seems to be on either too much or too little food. Simon Carey Holt is a pastor and author and has dedicated his time to exploring the quest for meaning, intimacy and community in today's world. Simon looks at the issue of food and how it holds an important place in Christian culture. Simon talks to Keith about how food can bring people together in community. He shares how, when we look at the life of Jesus Christ, we see Him sharing meals with people from all sections of society, making connections and cementing relationships over food and how this can be a framework for our interactions today.
Wesley Mission story—Wesley Noreen Towers
Lellah, her husband and their seven children never expected to be homeless but an ongoing illness for Lellah's husband and a sudden rental increase changed all that. Through a contact they heard about Wesley Noreen Towers, which offers supported accommodation for families who are homeless. For Lellah and her family, it has become a shelter in the storm.
The Rev Dr Keith Garner continues exploring the book of Matthew in the New Testament, looking at chapter 14 and the story of Jesus walking on the water. We look at how this story shows us the disciples experiencing contrary winds that seemed to come out of nowhere and the fear that engulfed them. We reflect on what this has to say to us today.
This week we are pleased to welcome Levi McGrath to the Wesley Impact! TV stage. Levi is a gifted young Australian folk-pop singer/songwriter with a passion for Africa and shedding light on social justice issues. We also hear from one of our well-loved guests, Liz Cole. Liz's remarkable gift for music is well beyond her young years, combining musical talent with poetic lyrics.
