Hope for young people

12 April 2015 Wesley Impact! TV

This week on Wesley Impact! TV we meet inspirational speaker and writer Glen Gerreyn and the Rev Dr Keith Garner explores John.

Glen's story
Glen Gerreyn had dreams of being an Olympic sprinter when he was struck with a debilitating illness that left him confined to his home for five years. He shares how a revelation from the Bible inspired him to start with the $2 he had at the time and raise money to build a youth centre, which led to his being awarded Young Australian of the Year for Community Service in Queensland. His turning point came when he recognised his life had a purpose beyond the struggle he was facing at the time, and he talks about the desire he has now to give young people hope through his book and through the talks he gives in schools. He also shares how one of his books is being used by NRL teams to help players make wise decisions in their personal lives.

Wesley Mission story—Wesley Aunties & Uncles
Today we hear the story of Taylor, who joined the Wesley Aunties & Uncles program at the age of four. Having been mentored by her ‘Auntie’ and ‘Uncle’ Maryanne and  Robert, Taylor, now 18, says she wouldn’t be able to go to university today if it weren’t for the opportunities she has been given through the program. Wesley Mission took on the program in 2010 and as it celebrates 40 years of operation, over 4,000 children have been mentored with a 95 per cent matching rate.

Keith's reflection
The Rev Dr Keith Garner looks today at the account of Jesus' appearance to the disciples after his resurrection. His words of peace to the frightened disciples created enormous joy. Having missed out on this initial appearance, we see how Thomas later struggled with doubt, and Jesus' willingness to satisfy Thomas's terms for belief. Thomas is left with no doubt that Jesus has indeed risen, and we too can have this assurance because his risen power can touch anyone's life.

Guest performers
We’re joined today by speaker, songwriter and worship leader Ryan Day, and we also hear from Matt Doeland from Port Macquarie. Matt is a singer, songwriter, worship leader and speaker with a heart to share God's amazing love.
