Serving God at sea

30 November 2014 Wesley Impact! TV

This week on Wesley Impact! TV we meet Anna Scott and the Rev Dr Keith Garner explores Mark.

Anna's story
Anna Scott of YWAM Medical Ships talks about the work done over the last five years in Papua New Guinea, bringing new hope to some of the most remote and challenged areas of the Pacific. The work of the ship so far has included child and maternal healthcare, treatment of diseases such as malaria, dentistry and optometry. The launch of a new ship four times the size of the current ship will see this work increase by 500 percent. Anna shares how she is currently raising awareness and funds for the fitout of the new ship, as well as recruiting medical and marine professionals and general volunteers to help. For Anna, Christmas is an opportunity to reflect and give thanks for the year that has passed.

Wesley Mission story—Wesley Hospital
Today we hear the story of Peter, who approached Wesley Mission to help him overcome a 20-year alcohol addiction. Peter shares that life following his journey through Wesley Hospital’s drug and alcohol addiction program is fantastic, and he is now training to be an Assistant in Nursing (AIN). He now has more confidence and wants others to see that addictions can be overcome.

Keith's reflection
The Rev Dr Keith Garner explores the meaning of Advent through the book of Mark. Here we read that Jesus called on his followers to be watchful at all times, alert for opportunities to tell the good news and care for others. They are also to be on guard as they wait for Jesus’ promised return.

Guest performers
We’re joined today by speaker, songwriter and worship leader Ryan Day, and we hear from Shauntai Batzke. Shauntai is a Wiradjuri woman from New South Wales and an inspirational gospel and opera singer, songwriter and developing artist with Short Black Opera Company.
