The drama of Easter

29 March 2015 Wesley Impact! TV

This week on Wesley Impact! TV we meet Wesley Mission's Easter drama coordinator David Cornford, and the Rev Dr Keith Garner reflects on Palm Sunday.

David's story
David Cornford has been involved in dramatic re-creations of Easter events for many years. As director of Wesley Mission’s moving re-enactments of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the events surrounding the Crucifixion, David’s aim is to encourage people to understand the Easter message in a new and personal way, from the perspectives of those such as the disciples whose experience of these events was intensely personal. He also talks about the experiences of the actors, who are everyday people playing extraordinary characters. Through Wesley Mission’s Good Friday drama and procession up Pitt Street, David hopes people will consider the sacrifice Jesus made for us, and consider how to follow his example.

Wesley Mission story—Wesley Easter Mission
Today we remember Easter Mission in 2014. We think back to the branches waving on Palm Sunday, our Easter breakfast and lunch with special guest, world champion boxer Nigel Benn, our Good Friday drama and procession and our Easter Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday. As we reflect on these past events, we look forward to the upcoming 2015 Easter Mission events which are happening this week in the city of Sydney.

Keith's reflection
On this special day, Palm Sunday, the Rev Dr Keith Garner reflects on the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in John 12:12-19. We reflect on the enormity of the crowd that gathered to cry 'Hosanna!', a crowd that was unusually large as many had made their compulsory journey to the city for the Passover. Amidst the onlookers, those who had witnessed Jesus' miracles and teaching, the religious leaders who sought to trap Jesus, and the disciples who knew little of what would happen in the days ahead, Jesus entered on a donkey, a sign that he had come not only in peace, but as the Prince of Peace.

Guest performers
Today we hear from talented artist Greg Attwells. Greg is a seasoned performer of indie, folk and worship and has a deep desire to lead others to the feet of Jesus Christ with his music. We are also joined by Wesley Impact! TV's talented singer and worship leader Deborah Ezzy, who has been backing vocalist for the Wesley Impact! TV band since it began.
