Help give disability carers a break before they break down.
Disability is a major issue in Australia, with 4.2 million Australians classified as having a disability and 2.7 million Australians classified as informal carers. Carers of people with disability do the best that they can to provide a stable environment but other areas in life—finances, employment and personal time—are no longer a priority. Our research reveals that the caring role has a significant impact and carers find that life is extremely complex, their freedom and options disappear and any sense of self is compressed. This snapshot of life as a disability carer also gives insights into how we can achieve effective outcomes for carers.
