Living a life of influence

3 July 2016 Wesley Impact! TV

At Wesley Mission, we are privileged to know and work with people from a wide range of sectors in our community. Whether it be prime ministers, state premiers and others involved in public service, or people who work tirelessly in their local churches and community groups to do all the good they can. Wherever the connection points happen to be, we all have the ability to influence those around us.

This week, the Rev Keith Garner speaks with former New South Wales Governor, Dame Marie Bashir, who uses her influence in a way that will make a positive impact for future generations.

International opera singer, Sarah Toth, performs a well-known piece from Handel’s Messiah, ‘I know my redeemer liveth’, and Rev Keith Garner explores Luke 10.

Erin and Kaitlyn’s story: Homelessness can happen to anyone

This winter, we have been bringing awareness to just how serious the issue of homelessness is in Australia, through Wesley Mission’s 2016 Winter Campaign: Homelessness can happen to anyone.

In this week’s episode of Wesley Impact! TV, Erin shares her story, explaining how a series of unexpected events left her without a safe place to live and raise her daughter Kaitlyn. When her father was diagnosed with cancer, Erin moved back home to care for him in his final months. She was also dealing with the challenges of a broken marriage and had just been diagnosed with thyroid cancer when her father passed away. At first, Erin and Kaitlyn moved in with a friend, but the friend became increasingly volatile, with sudden outbursts of anger towards them and Erin’s car became the only safe place they had left.

With support from Wesley Mission, Erin and Kaitlyn now have a safe place to call home.

Special guest: Dame Marie Bashir

Earlier this year, during Wesley Mission’s 2016 Easter mission, the Rev Keith Garner spoke to the second longest serving and, to date, only female Governor of New South Wales, Dame Marie Bashir.

This week, we present part one of this two part interview.

Guest performer: Sarah Toth

As the daughter of Methodist Missionary parents, Sarah Toth grew up in Hungary before moving back to the United States of America to attend college. She is now an international opera singer and we are pleased to present her performance of ‘I know my redeemer liveth’, from Handel’s Messiah.

Keith’s message: Written in Heaven

The Rev Keith Garner discusses the passages of Luke 10:1-11 and Luke 10:16-20. Mr Garner compares the similarities and differences between Matthew’s and Mark’s accounts of Jesus sending the disciples out two by two.
