Wesley Mission confirms appointment of incoming CEO/Superintendent 2021

Wesley Mission has been led by a long line of faithful leaders, each devoting their lives to the uniquely shaped Word and deed mission that has grown continually to meet the needs of Australian communities.

We are pleased to announce that the Rev Stu Cameron will be the incoming CEO/Superintendent to commence in the role following a time of handover in January 2021.

Wesley Mission’s current CEO/Superintendent, the Rev Dr Keith V Garner AM says, “I am looking forward to welcoming Stu as he joins us at the end of the year. This appointment comes after an extensive search process and the approval of both the Wesley Community Services Board and Wesley Mission Council.”

Stu currently leads Newlife Church’s three campuses in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Coolangatta that together make up the largest church within the Uniting Church in Australia. Previously he served as Uniting Church General Secretary in South Australia and has been connected to the dynamic work of community services through both roles.

Reflecting on his appointment, Stu says, “I have always admired Wesley Mission and its leaders. I am both excited and daunted by the prospect of contributing to Wesley Mission’s goal of serving Australians in Word and deed.”

2020 has seen Wesley Mission expand into new areas of service including a collaboration between its foster care and disability services that will provide intensive therapeutic care to some of the New South Wales’ most vulnerable children and young people. Under the continuing leadership of the Rev Keith Garner projects launched to revitalise essential services for Sydney’s homeless, to provide affordable housing in inner-city Sydney and to expand specialist mental health treatment are all moving ahead.

“Wesley Mission’s positive influence is evident throughout generations. This pattern has continued with each transition of leadership and we will be doing all the good we can for a long time to come”, says the Rev Keith Garner.

“Our strategic plan that has brought both stability and growth will ensure our critical services continue through these challenging times as globally we respond to the Coronavirus pandemic.”
