Jess’ welcoming smile: a gateway to support at Wesley Mission Newcastle

Become a volunteer

Volunteering for Wesley Mission is a rewarding experience and we have opportunities to suit everyone.

No matter who walks through Wesley Mission’s doors, you’ll always be greeted with a smile. Meet Jess, a Wesley Mission Newcastle front desk worker who’s been volunteering since December 2019.

Once a week Jess helps people most in need access support from Wesley Mission’s community services – whether through emergency relief, education, training, employment, counselling, mental health support, foster care, homelessness services and much more.

Her warm welcome and light conversation helps people relax. Knowing the many challenges faced by people in the Newcastle community, when they walk through Wesley Mission’s doors, Jess ensures they’re comfortable and feel safe.

Jess is completing a Certificate III in Community Services and is grateful for the opportunity to complete her volunteer work placement at Wesley Mission.

“I’ve always wanted to work in the community service area. Wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to go but I’m here now and I hope to be here for a long time because everyone needs support,” she says.

Jess is passionate about supporting children in foster care and believes this volunteering placement will equip her for the road ahead.

While Jess took a short break from her volunteer role due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), Jess is now back on-board, supporting people as they walk through our doors.

Volunteers like Jess are critical to the work of Wesley Mission’s community services, helping to provide more services to people most in need. Find out how you can get involved today.
