Christmas comes but once a year … or so we thought.

Universal McCann (UM), a global media teamed up with Wesley Mission to bring Christmas in July to those we serve as part of Global Impact Day.

Little did we know, it would end up being the highlight of the year for those involved in Global Impact Day.

On Thursday, 19 July, 130 UM volunteers transformed Wesley Mission into a winter wonderland and celebrated Christmas in July with our clients and residents from Wesley Lifeskills, Alan Walker Village, Wesley Taylor Narrabeen, Wesley Tebbutt Dundas and Wesley Edward Eagar Lodge.

Our aged care and independent living centres were transformed with tinsel and residents enjoyed sharing in conversations, including Christmas cracker jokes, fantastic food prepared by our centre chefs and Wesley Catering, Christmas carolling and games.

UM volunteers provided those experiencing homelessness with kindness, dignity and much needed winter items at Wesley Open Wardrobe—a market stall providing free items for those most in need.

“It’s been a really really good experience. We’ve put some smiles on faces, we’ve put smiles on our own faces and we’re hoping we can come back again next year,” said Andy, UM volunteer.

Wesley Lifeskills were gifted with a fun, safe space to engage with the UM volunteers over arts and crafts, pampering, dancing and karaoke. Clients, volunteers and carers alike let their hair down and connected over their similarities, not their differences.

“Our team is extending a great thank you to all volunteers for organising Christmas in July at Auburn. Clients and volunteers bonded very well together and everyone enjoyed food, games, painting, as well as everyone was surprised and pleased with a party bag.

“[Our] volunteer crew showed commitment and full dedication to our clients and made everyone to feel welcome. Today was a special moment to all!” said Lana, Wesley Lifeskills Service Coordinator.

UM Impact Day focuses on building a better world, and it’s easy to see how the 130 UM volunteers made an impact to over 500 Wesley Mission clients, residents and staff. Thank you to all involved and to UM for making our world a better place.
