Volunteers honoured for three decades of service
Last month a team of volunteers from Beecroft Uniting Church’s Seniors Club were honoured for their service to Wesley Mission.
For more than 30 years this seniors club have brought joy to the residents of Wesley Tebbutt Dundas by hosting a monthly afternoon tea. After a long and successful run, the seniors club is now retiring from this activity.
At the final afternoon tea, Stewart MacLaren, who has led this activity for the last 16 years, shared about the history of the seniors club and the morning tea, their passion for serving the ageing community and his dedicated team of volunteers who made this ministry possible.
“The program reached out to the local community, nursing homes, retirement villages and our church members, providing community singing, devotions, a range of entertainment and always concluding with a delicious afternoon tea served by a dedicated team of ladies from our church, many, including my wife, who have supported the seniors for many years.”
For the last seven years, Stewart MacLaren has also volunteered for Wesley Mission’s fundraising department, meeting with Wesley Mission donors to showcase the work of our organisation.
“During this time, I conducted several bus tours, taking many of our generous donors to visit Wesley Mission centres including of course, Tebbutt Lodge, where we were always made so very welcome. These outings provided an insight to the wonderful work being done and gave the donors an opportunity to meet staff and sometimes on occasions, some of the residents too,” explained Stewart.
