Body and mind: the call of elite athletes
This week on Wesley Impact! TV we meet former Olympian, Elka Whalan, and the Rev Dr Keith Garner explores Matthew 14..
Today we meet former Australian Olympian swimmer, Elka Whalan. Such a small percentage of people in each country make it to the Olympic games and even fewer win medals. Elka Whalan talks to Keith about what it takes to become an elite athlete and how it is just as much about a person's mind as their body and talent. She shares her perspective on her own God given talent and also about what makes a great all round sports person. Elka is a committed Christian, sports commentator and passionate communicator and she now dedicates her time to helping people discover their purpose in life.
Wesley Mission story—Wesley Family Services
Wesley Mission is passionate about building strong and resilient families. On the show this week we look at how Wesley Family Services is working closely with mothers to provide them with support, advice and practical programs to build their parenting skills. We hear from one young mum who tells us how she has regained her confidence as a parent and just how much she benefits from the weekly interaction with other mothers.
The Rev Dr Keith Garner continues exploring the book of Matthew in the New Testament. We follow the evocative story of Jesus Christ sending the crowds away in chapter 14. We look at how this conveys the humanity of Jesus Christ, who was often driven by compassion to serve the needs of others, but also needed to take time out in solitude.
Today we welcome one of Wesley Impact! TV's well loved guests, Liz Cole. Liz's remarkable gift for music is well beyond her young years, combining musical talent with poetic lyrics. We also hear from talented artist Greg Attwells. Greg is a seasoned performer of indie, folk and worship and has a deep desire to lead others to the feet of Jesus Christ with his music.
