Preventing suicide in Australia today
This week on Wesley Impact! TV we meet Lifeline CEO, John Brogden, and the Rev Dr Keith Garner explores 1 Peter.
John Brogden is the CEO of Lifeline Australia and is a man who has worn many hats in his career. Just this year he was awarded an Order of Australia for his service to the community. A decade ago he was the youngest ever leader of the Opposition in New South Wales at 33 years old. After making a tough decision to resign as the leader of the political party John decided to take his own life. After an unsuccessful attempt at suicide he managed to make his journey of recovery. John is now a leading advocate for suicide prevention services and he shares with the Rev Dr Keith Garner about this important work and the personal circumstances that led him to dedicate his time and energy to it.
Wesley Mission story—Wesley Suicide Prevention Services
Today we hear the heart breaking story of those left picking up the pieces after a family member or loved one takes their own life. Wesley Suicide Prevention Services is committed to working with individuals and communities to help people become aware of the signs of suicide and how to do all they can to prevent suicide. They also work with those who have been bereaved, helping them in their pain and loss and supporting them in whatever way they can.
In the fourth in a series on the book of 1 Peter, the Rev Dr Keith Garner reflects on the example of Jesus Christ's suffering and how, although we might feel isolated, we are not alone in the difficult times we face. Jesus Christ was the ultimate suffering servant and was the last to deserve the suffering he went through.
Today on Wesley Impact! TV we welcome Tim Moxey. Last year Tim was a contestant on the popular Australian talent contest, The Voice. With his impressive four octave range and powerful voice, Tim is a highly gifted performer. We also hear from Jordan Worner. Jordan is a young Australian singer/songwriter. He is passionate about leading people into God's presence through music, and has had opportunity to do so all over the world.
