By Rev Dr Rick Dacey

We often find it difficult to understand how the Bible can describe God as both a Lord of love and of wrath. This week the Rev Dr Rick Dacey looks at how these two attributes are inseparable from one another. In Amos 5:11-24 we find that God is not petty and vindictive, but he has a just and righteous anger that stems from his love of all people. When the wealthy have grown lazy on privilege and power at the expense of the poor and needy, God’s anger is moved. In His Word we see God will stand by the poor, the weak and the vulnerable, and in those moments His love takes the form of wrath. Through the ages the Bible has held a powerful twofold message of justice: those who are oppressed will find freedom, but oppressors will face God’s anger on behalf of those He loves.
