By Rev Dr Rick Dacey

In this sermon from Luke 16:19-31, the Rev Dr Rick Dacey looks at God’s heart for the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalised. In this reading we find a God whose heart is broken when His people are downtrodden and abused by the apathy of those who have the power to help. It is easy for us to imagine that the rich man in Jesus’ parable is representing somebody else, and yet for us living in 21st century Sydney we are not just among the richest people in the world, but the richest in the history of the world. We have more ease and security than that rich man would have ever dreamed possible. This parable speaks a profound challenge: to see every person in need not as an object of pity or charity, but as a child of God and our friend.
