By Rev Keith Garner

This week the Rev Dr Keith Garner examines Psalm 5 in the light of the vital work of volunteering. This Psalm underpins a deep truth: while there is a reality of sin and selfishness on Earth, it can be fought with acts of love and genuine contributions to the world around us. The psalmist allows us to better understand the nature of God, a Lord who hears and is concerned with the deepest struggles of our lives and who relentlessly desires to care for His creation. As we look at this Psalm in the light of volunteering we connect with the truth that God is not a separate, mysterious being in far-off places: He is deeply concerned with the everyday experiences of His people. When we meet people at their point of need we make His business, our business.
