On this fourth Sunday of Easter, Rev Dr Keith Garner explores the description of the Good Shepherd in John 10. This term is so well known that it is easy to lose its significance, however we have much to learn from its meaning. The fourth in his list of ‘I am’ statements, Jesus’ word that He is the Good Shepherd was demonstrated in his death on the cross, the ultimate act of sacrificial leadership, and is also experienced by us now as he leads and protects us. We learn that the role of shepherding applies to us all, as we seek to show God’s love to people who live in a society in which fear, separation and insecurity are so prevalent.
