As the Rev Dr Rick Dacey explores the account of Jesus’ time in the wilderness in Mark’s Gospel, he asks why this time was necessary. In his answer, we consider the pattern of wilderness experiences in the Scriptures, and how God uses these to reshape, refine and renew His people. We look at how Jesus resisted the temptation to bypass the cross and use his power to serve himself, choosing instead the path of humble submission in love. In our wilderness we learn that God is with us and knows our struggles.
