This week the Rev Keith Garner explores a passage in the Gospel of John which is disturbing for us all: that detailing the doubt and rejection of the early followers, and their difficulty in accepting the “hard sayings” of Jesus. Here we are reminded that Jesus gave offence to many as he welcomed outsiders, challenged ideas on religion, and allowed himself to be led to the cross. Today we are challenged by the notion that we are not in charge of our lives, but that our lives must be consumed by following Christ, for the rest of our lives, no matter what rejection or hardship we face as a result. Neither neutrality nor anonymity are possible for those who follow Christ
